Srinagar: J&K Students Association on Sunday sent a legal notice to Turkey based Outlet TRT World for using and broadcasting a “fake image” of three Kashmiri students landing them in trouble.
Association sent a copy of legal notice, through their lawyer Aamir Masoodi, claiming defamation of three kashmiri students seeking a compensation of Rs. 1 Crore for exposing their lives to high risk and loss of career, education and reputation, a statement of J&K Students Association said.
The legal notice was send on behalf of National Spokesperson of the Association Nasir Khuehami. He said that the TRT World broadcasted a news content without verifying actual facts regarding three Kashmiri Students who were arrested in Agra for celebrating and cheering in support of Pakistan cricket team during the India Pakistan T-20 world Cup Match played in Dubai.
“The notice reads, TRT World displayed the photographs of other three Kashmiri students … Talib Majeed, Basit Ahmad Sofi and Aamir Mohidin Wani who are currently studying in Karnataka India, claimed that these Kashmiris Languish in Indian Jail and are facing sedition charges for praising Pakistan, which is totally baseless, highly libelous and concocted.”
It says, all three students have no direct or indirect nexus with the Agra sedition case. These three Kashmiri students who are currently studying in Hubli Karnataka through Prime Minister's Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) were once maliciously arrested in the year 2020 for raising objectionable slogans, but were released and now have been shifted to mainstream completely and living their normal life peacefully and studying in Karnataka Private college through PM Scholarship Scheme, the statement said.
TRT maligned the image, reputation and educational career of these three innocent Kashmiri students by uploading the photographs openly on the channel, brings your baseless reported news content, honor and dignity to disrepute which has shaken rather tarnished the prestige of these three innocent Kashmiri students, added the notice.
TRT must tender an “unconditional apology” to these three innocent Kashmiri students, failing which we shall proceed with “defamation proceedings” as advised by our legal team, Khuehami said while challenging TRTs' Claim.
