Jammu: A Jammu and Kashmir Police head constable was martyred, and two terrorists were killed, while multiple security personnel, including an officer, sustained injuries in two separate encounters in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.
As per reports, the first encounter took place in Adigam village in the Devsar area of Kulgam district when security forces launched a pre-dawn cordon-and-search operation, acting on credible intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists. Security forces swiftly sealed off the area, leading to a fierce gunbattle between the militants and the forces. According to the police, two unidentified terrorists were neutralized in the operation.
During the early exchange of fire, Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Mumtaz Ali, was injured by a stray bullet near the encounter site. Four other security personnel involved in the anti-terror operation were also injured. The injured personnel were evacuated and shifted to a nearby hospital, where their condition is reported to be stable.
While the identity and affiliation of the slain terrorists are yet to be confirmed, search operations continued throughout the day to ensure the area was secure. Security forces believe that the terrorists could have been part of a larger network operating in the region.
In another encounter later in the evening, a police head constable was martyred, and an assistant sub-inspector was injured in Kog-Mandli village, located in the Billawar tehsil of Kathua district. The encounter began around 5:30 pm when security forces, acting on intelligence reports, launched a joint cordon-and-search operation in the remote village.
The operation quickly escalated as both sides exchanged heavy gunfire, with terrorists reportedly using the cover of a house to engage the forces. According to officials, the firing initially lasted for a brief period before resuming with greater intensity as security forces closed in on the location. Unfortunately, during the exchange of fire, the police head constable was fatally wounded, while the assistant sub-inspector sustained injuries.
The area has been tightly cordoned off, and additional forces from nearby security camps have been brought in to assist in the ongoing operation. The injured officer has been shifted to a hospital, where his condition is being monitored. Meanwhile, the encounter continues as security forces engage the terrorists.
