Record tourists’ arrival testimony to peace, progress, prosperity in J&K: LG

Srinagar: Highlighting the Jammu and Kashmir’s growing stature as a global destination for international events, the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Said that the record tourists’ arrival in the last few years stands as a testimony to the peace, progress and prosperity in Union Territory.
“Prime Minister's decisive leadership and restoration of peace and normalcy in J&K has ensured people can enjoy international cricket matches, Formula-4 race and feel proud by hosting global event like G20 Summit and International Yoga Day,” LG said after felicitating the winners of Kashmir Marathon, a first-ever International Marathon in Jammu Kashmir.
The event saw over 1,700 runners from across the country and 12 foreign nations participate in both the 42 km Full Marathon and 21 km Half Marathon.
During his address, the Lt Governor acknowledged the efforts of the Tourism Department, J&K Police, Security Forces, and Youth Services & Sports Department for their contributions to the success of the event. He emphasized how this marathon has put Jammu and Kashmir on the world marathon map, while expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership in transforming J&K into a peaceful and prosperous region, capable of hosting international events.
He also pointed to the record-breaking number of tourists visiting the region in recent years, calling it a testament to the peace, progress, and prosperity in J&K. The increase in tourism, he added, reflects the Union Territory's newfound stability, attracting both domestic and international visitors alike.
The Lt Governor further announced plans for a Jammu Marathon to be held soon, following the success of the Kashmir Marathon. He stressed that these signature running events will bring runners from around the globe to J&K, helping to boost tourism and showcase the region's ideal climate, cultural richness, and scenic beauty.
Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty, who was present at the event, praised the hospitality and breathtaking landscapes of J&K, expressing confidence that the region will soon become a top destination for international events, including marathons and film productions.
The felicitation ceremony was attended by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Commissioner Secretary Yasha Mudgal, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, senior officials, prominent citizens, and a large number of sportspersons and youth.
