Model station

Aiming to develop Jammu Tawi Railway Station on the pattern of model station, the existing goods yards will be shifted to the Bari Brahmana Railway Station by April while new platforms are also in the pipeline to facilitate and cater the rush of visitors with various facilities. Railway department said that new platforms are to be constructed at the goods yard after it will be shifted to the Bari Brahmana Railway Station to develop the venue on model grounds. The exercise of making Jammu railway Station a model venue has already started and the goods yard will be shifted by the month of April to Bari Brahmana. The railway station will soon be rejuvenated for which the Indian Railways has given the approval. A separate entrance will be developed at the Jammu railway station on the sick line towards Indian Oil Depot. The new platform will be constructed near the new entry gate and the exercise of shifting the goods yard has started. Once the yard will be shifted, the space is to be utilized for the expansion of the station. The expansion work has been entrusted to the construction and engineering wing of the railways. Tendering process will be initiated in a couple of weeks. Keeping in view the swelling rush of visitors, the expansion of Jammu Tawi Railway Station with facilities and other requirements is the need of the hour. Notably, the expansion of Jammu railway station was announced in 2014 when it was proposed as Jammu Railway Division but due to some unavoidable hiccups, the project could not take off.
Jammu railway station was constructed in the year 1970 with three platforms and two washing lines. The infrastructure at Jammu Railway Station has not expanded since decades despite the fact that every day 25 to 30 trains arrive and depart from here for various destinations across the country. From cleaning to repair of trains, every exercise is being carried out at the existing railway station and the number of trains have also increased manifold. So, expansion was much awaited for which several requisitions were made by the Jammu people at the right quarters.
