After Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav shares a cryptic post following Rohit Sharma’s removal as MI captain
Hardik Pandya’s move to Mumbai Indians might create unrest in Mumbai Indians’ dressing room as after their spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav has shared a cryptic post on his social media accounts.
Suryakumar Yadav shared an emoji of broken heart after Mumbai Indians removed Rohit Sharma from the captaincy.
Suryakumar Yadav has led India in the two T20I series recently, the five-match series against Australia at home and in the three matches against South Africa.
Suryakumar Yadav is not the first Mumbai Indians cricketer, who has shared cryptic post after Hardik Pandya’s return.
When Pandya was traded from Gujarat Titans, Jasprit Bumrah has shared a cryptic message on his Instagram story.
Jasprit Bumrah’s post read “Silence is sometimes the best answer.”
Jasprit Bumrah has been an integral part of Mumbai Indians. He has been with them since the very beginning of his IPL career – back in 2015 – has picked 145 wickets at an average of 23.30 and has been part of four IPL title-winning campaigns in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020.
The right-arm fast bowler has not captained in any first-class, One day or Indian Premier League match before, but in the past has shown interest in captaining India. Before a career-threatening injury forced him to sit out for almost a year, Bumrah promoted to the vice-captaincy of the Indian team for the three-match ODI series in South Africa in 2022.
Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has said that if the opportunity comes, he is ready to take up the India captaincy. “If given an opportunity, it would be an honour. I don’t think any player would say no. There’s no bigger feeling than that,” Bumrah had said at a press conference.
Later that year, Bumrah became the fist fast bowler since Kapil Dev in 1987 to be named captain of the Indian cricket Test team after regular captain Rohit Sharma failed to recover in time from COVID-19 and was ruled out of the Edgbaston Test against England.
“Big achievement, it’s a big honour. Playing a Test match was a dream for me and to get an opportunity like this is a big achievement — among the biggest achievements in my career. So, I am very happy that I have been given this opportunity,” Bumrah had said after his appointment.
After making his return to competitive cricket, Bumrah was appointed as captain of India for the T20Is in Ireland in August. Back then, this Newspaper reported that there were speculations over whether Ruturaj Gaikwad, who captained India for the 2023 Asian Games, should lead in Ireland to reduce Bumrah’s workload, but the fast bowler was keen to lead.
Hardik Pandya, who had left MI for Gujarat a couple of seasons back, led the new franchise to a title in their first-ever IPL season. Defending the title this year, Pandya and Co made it to the final again but lost against the Chennai Super Kings.
However, this is not the first time Mumbai Indians has taken a ruthless decision on the captaincy.
Back in 2013, after MI had got off to a poor start under the captaincy of Ricky Ponting, the franchise would turn to Rohit Sharma to lead them. A call that resulted in their first-ever league title. Since then, Rohit has led the team to four more titles – the joint-most for any captain alongside MS Dhoni.
