Parties for ‘empowering’ people, not alienating ….!

Jammu: A visible shift and spike in terror attacks has left not only the security apparatus in a tizzy but also the government anxious and apprehensive for apparent reasons. Claims of success in improving situation have inverted and things have gone just wrong side up much to awe of government. Is this time for BJP led establishment at Centre to relook or revisit its policy on Kashmir…?
For some years in recent past BJP government remained euphoric that it has been able to control violent face of security situation across Kashmir- and rightly so it did as the spree of hartals and stone pelting phenomenon came to an end. It proved to be big relief to common people for leading normal lives, though these were not only parameters to judge restoration of complete normalcy. Both government and security forces maintained that militancy had been wiped out to almost last point. But that has proved to be only deception.
In less than two months of formation of Narender Modi led government at Centre, the circumstantial situation brought this reality to fore that militants have neither been crushed completely nor militancy wiped out. The ‘success’ slogan is jeering at those who tried to ride on its wave to garner political gains. It is simply an exaggeration of imaginary feat as continuous attacks on security forces and its losses have only shown that militants have simply risen from their self chosen hibernation.
Their capacity to attack is intact , rather changed with better weaponary and methods. While the LG administration, police and security forces have been caught unawares, the renewed phase of violence has only proved political parties correct in criticizing the government policy on Kashmir. They also feel ridiculing local governments in past in not dealing with militancy with a tough hand has proved pointless, even as this statement can’t be justified completely.
Opposition is almost on same page in saying praises on administration in what government saw dealing with security situation created some ‘big gaps’ which augmented the sentiment of support for militancy and sympathy for militants once again.
The regional parties have begun to echo it loud that BJP government’s ‘pro active’ policy and approach has boomeranged and UT is witnessing incidents as onset of new phase of militancy with only shift in base and strategy. As for relook of Kashmir’s policy, parties may have many broad contours in mind to be conveyed to government, but as a major point on which they converge is empowering people with democratic set up, instead of alienating them.
