CEC's assurance of timely J&K pollsbolsters Cong's confidence

JAMMU: The Congress party has expressed strong confidence in the Chief Election Commissioner's (CEC) commitment to holding timely assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
Congress leader Vikar Rasool Wani affirmed that the party is fully prepared to face the electoral challenge, emphasizing that he has thoroughly reviewed the CEC's statement.
Wani pointed out that according to a Supreme Court directive, the elections in Jammu and Kashmir should be held before September, reinforcing his belief that there is no uncertainty about the timeline.
The CEC, Rajeev Kumar, reiterated the Election Commission's determination to conduct the elections at the earliest possible date, citing favorable conditions in the region. Kumar emphasized that no internal or external force would be allowed to disrupt the electoral process, dismissing concerns about terrorism derailing the elections.
This assurance from the CEC was welcomed by the Congress party, which sees no reason to doubt the possibility of smooth elections.
Wani further asserted that Congress is well-prepared for the upcoming elections, emphasizing the unique character of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. He highlighted that these elections are closely tied to the masses' demands for development and other local issues.
Wani expressed confidence that Congress would make a significant impact in these elections, particularly against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which, according to him, is losing support among the electorate.
“Despite the BJP gaining some advantage in the Lok Sabha elections due to certain factors, such as the "Mandir sentiment" and support from women voters, we believe that the BJP is not in a position to effectively challenge Congress in the assembly elections,” said Vikar Rasool Wani .
He further said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are looking forward to Congress's leadership and that the upcoming elections would prove the party's strength and popularity in the region.
Wani also mentioned that he has instructed all district heads to gather comprehensive feedback from all 90 constituencies to assess the party's readiness for the elections. Once this feedback is collected, he plans to convene the State Working Committee for Elections to finalize a list of candidates, which will then be submitted to the Party High Command in New Delhi for approval.
“The party is gearing up to present itself as a formidable alternative to the BJP, which has lost its ground in the region,” said Wani .
