Police zeroed in Auto driver as relatives hold protest against police’s functioning

Jammu: Amid VVIPs visit for upcoming Assembly Elections campaign in Jammu, the broad day light double murder case in Talab Tillo’s ever busy area has become a challenge for Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Sanjay Kumar Chandel son of Joginder Chander of Billawar at present Manorama Lane, Talab Tillo, a retired DIET Principal, and his wife Veena Devi, were found dead under mysterious circumstances at their Manorama Lane based residence around 5:30 pm on Saturday, following which police team led by senior police officers rushed to the spot and started investigation.
Police took the bodies of the elderly couple to the GMC hospital for postmortem where it was confirmed that some ligature was used to strangulate their throat. Further, during investigation police came to know that the murderers had also stolen gold and other expensive items from their house.
To crack down the case, police detained around 40 people for questioning and also went through CCTV footages from the area and came to know that one auto driver who was in close contact with the couple had been missing. Though he was missing from his house for the last seven days, he was seen near the deceased’s home.
Investigation team came to know that the auto driver, a resident of R.S Pura, took the couple outside when called by them and the couple had given bank guarantee as loan on auto for the driver. The couple was living all alone as their two daughters were settled in London and Chandigarh.
Meanwhile, Ravinder Chandel, deceased Sanjay Kumar’s brother along with fifteen people staged a protest against the functioning of police. He said that despite of elapse of 48 hours of the incident, police are unable to arrest the accused and solved the murder mystery.
