Voter excitement peaks as J&K gears up for phase-2 of elections

Jammu: The above 60% record polling in first phase of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir has visibly infused enthusiasm among the voters of second and third phase who are yearning to go for their mandate.
Peoples’ participation and clean and clear voting process in the first phase has become indicative of the fact that people are supporting democracy in its letter and spirit.
While the first phase voters have expressed great satisfaction about the exercise in franchise reposing faith in democracy expecting to get a clean government, the second phase voters too seem eager for their turn to come up on September 25.
“The polling is being held after a decade. This is our golden opportunity to grab the moment and set a democratic precedent in the UT by installing a government that can look into the causes and concerns of the people,” said Azmat Mir.
While the people of Chenab valley districts of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban, and south Kashmir districts of Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam and Shopian have shown an exemplary participation in the electoral process of the UT in first phase elections, the second phase electorate of six districts of Srinagar, Ganderbal, Budgam, Reasi, Rajouri and Poonch housing 26 constituencies are putting up encouraging response to September 25 elections.
The topical exquisiteness of the ongoing elections in the UT is enshrined in particular excitement among the voters, many of whom outside the UT in their different occupations , talking to The News Now said that they have booked tickets home to exercise their franchise.
“I have been in Mumbai in the film industry for the past more than 9 years. I had just turned 17 in 2014 and was not able to cast my ballot then. I am getting my first chance to pick my government and I am coming home to Surankote on September 25 to cast my vote,” said Shahid Hussain.
The critical analysts view the election development in Jammu and Kashmir as unique and exciting due to the region's complex political history intertwined with terrorism, Article 370, and 35A.
“The abrogation of Article 370, which granted special autonomy to the state, and the removal of 35A, which defined permanent residency rights, has drastically altered the region's political dynamics. These changes have paved the way for a new electoral framework, bringing a fresh perspective to the democratic process,” said one of the political critics.
However the analysts are closely observing how these elections will unfold in a region long associated with conflict, viewing it as a significant marker of political stability, national integration, and the future of governance in Jammu and Kashmir.
