SRINAGAR: On the eve of the first session of the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly, the National Conference and Congress held a joint meeting to strategize for the maiden session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly in Srinagar.
The joint meeting was held after the National Conference, and Congress held a separate legislature meeting on Sunday evening.
The National Conference meeting occurred at 6:30 PM, while the Congress legislature party met at 5:00 PM.
Later, all legislators of the ruling alliance gathered to formulate a coordinated response to anticipated opposition attacks and to streamline government business.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, MLA G.A Mir, Salman Sagar, Sajad Shaheen, and Shameema Firdous were among those present at the meeting.
Speaking about the meeting, MLA Shamema Firdous said that during the joint meeting, a discussion was held over the speaker election and the speech of the lieutenant governor.
She added that the usual assembly business isn’t on the agenda. The only item is the LG’s address, and there will be some discussion on that. More things will be cleared only after the LG delivers its speech.
She further said that no bill is to be tabled in this assembly session as the main agenda will be the speech of LG, as I said.
MLA G.A Mir said, "Before the session begins, there’s a customary meeting, and today, at the start of the session, a meeting was held for all coalition partners. The session is expected to run for four to five days, so there was some discussion about the agenda and the main business”.
There will be the Governor’s address, and MLAs from both the ruling side and the opposition will present their views, followed by a response from the Chief Minister at the end, he said.
MLA Sajad Shaheen said the party meeting occurred as the session is about to start. There was consultation and consensus on what kind of business would be conducted and the process for the session in the House. Apart from that, the session begins tomorrow.
This is a short session, and it will run for four days. He said the Governor’s address will outline the main priorities, and there will be no question-answer session.
The five-day session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly will begin on November 4. On the first day, the speaker and deputy speaker will be elected, followed by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s speech.
On November 5, obituary references for former MLAs who passed away since the last session of the erstwhile assembly will be held.
Discussion on the Motion of Thanks on the LG’s address will occur on November 6th and 7th. On the last day of the assembly session, November 8th, a discussion on the Motion of Thanks will occur at LG’s address and reply.
