Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir government has introduced a significant initiative to streamline the Right to Information (RTI) process with the launch of an online RTI Portal, accessible at https://rtionline.jk.gov.in. Developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC).
The portal is designed to provide a comprehensive platform for citizens to submit and track RTI applications electronically, ensuring greater transparency and efficiency in governance.
The announcement was made through Circular No. 28-JK(GAD) of 2024, issued by the General Administration Department.
The portal is expected to become fully operational by December 10, 2024. It will serve as a centralized database for RTI applications received by Central Public Information Officers (CPIOs) and appeals submitted to First Appellate Authorities (FAAs) across all departments.
This initiative aims to simplify the RTI process by allowing citizens to submit applications, check their status, and receive responses online, reducing the need for physical visits to government offices. The shift to a digital platform reflects the administration’s commitment to fostering transparency, accountability, and effective governance within the Union Territory.
To facilitate its implementation, nodal officers have been appointed at administrative and district levels. These officers will oversee the onboarding of CPIOs and FAAs onto the portal, with a deadline of November 29, 2024, for completing the process. Departments with a large number of officers have also nominated additional nodal officers at the directorate level to ensure smooth operations.
Training sessions have been conducted for the nodal officers, who will be responsible for creating user accounts for CPIOs and FAAs and providing them with login credentials. Departments are required to share detailed information about their CPIOs with the General Administration Department by November 27, 2024. Information about district-level nodal officers must be submitted by this evening.
