Accused face charges of bribery, misuse of official position, and involvement in trap cases across J&K
SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has granted prosecution sanctions against 18 government officials in 2024 over allegations of corruption, bribery, and misuse of official positions.
The cases spread across districts such as Srinagar, Jammu, Baramulla, and Anantnag underline serious charges, including demand and acceptance of bribes, illegal gratification, and abuse of power.
According to the list, a copy of which lies with The News Now, Nisar Ahmad Wani, a former Defence Labour Procurement Officer, and Arshad Amin, Junior Engineer (RDD REW), face charges of demanding and accepting bribes.
Similarly, Tariq Ahmad Hajam, a patwari, is accused of misuse of official position and illegal gratification, while Shakeel Ahmad Dar, In-charge AEE Block P, and Assistant Professors Tariq Ahmad Ashai and Imtiyaz Gul Khan are implicated in trap cases involving bribery.
Other cases include Ghulam Mohammad Sofi, an Assistant Lineman, and Varun Choudhary, both charged in trap cases. Tariq Ahmed, a constable, has been accused of misuse of his official position for illegal gratification. Additionally, Javed Ahmad Najar, a technician, and patwaris Mohammad Abbas Wani and Tariq Ahmad Kachroo, have been charged with demanding and accepting bribes.
The list also includes Mohammad Rafiq, a patwari accused of abusing his official position, and Mohd. Sultan, a Junior Assistant, who faces bribery charges. Shazia Ahad, a Junior Assistant in the PDD/KPDCL, is accused of abusing her position, while Razia Bano and Irshad Ahmad Dar, both administrative staff, face allegations of misuse of power. Lastly, Bashir Ahmad Khan, a Senior Assistant, has been charged with misusing his position for personal gain.
The General Administration Department (GAD) has issued sanction orders for prosecution in these cases, emphasizing the government’s commitment to combating corruption and ensuring accountability in public service. Investigations are ongoing to bring the accused to justice and restore the integrity of governance in Jammu and Kashmir, said an official.
