Kedar Jadhav hails death-over bowlers, says had faith in them
Southampton, Jun 23: Indian batsman Kedar Jadhav has said the team never lost faith in their death-overs specialists after Team India managed to register 11-run victory over Afghanistan in the ongoing ICC World Cup.
Addressing the post-match press conference on Saturday, Jadhav praised the bowlers and said,'Obviously, we had belief in our death specialist bowlers".
"Bumrah is the no 1 bowler. We knew we had to get just one wicket to break that partnership, and the next batsman would be finding it difficult to score those runs in that scenario. So we knew just one wicket away from that crucial win', he added.
Bumrah’s two-wicket maiden brought India back into the match and he conceded only five runs in the 49th over of Afghanistan innings setting the stage for Shami’s final over heroics.
In the final over, Afghanistan needed 16 runs to win but Shami claimed a superb hat-trick to help India beat Afghanistan.
Shami become the second Indian, after Chetan Sharma, to claim a World Cup hat-trick.
Jadhav scored 52 crucial runs becoming the second highest scorer in the Indian innings and rescued the team from the tough situation.
Talking about India's batting effort, Jadhav said that it was a difficult wicket to bat on but India still should have posted a 250-plus total.
"The wicket was slow and they were playing with four spinners. The ball was turning...it was difficult to play shots," he said.
"When the wicket is such, you need to analyse what sort of score we are looking at. Our actual plan was to look for around 250, we were targeting 250-260 but fell short by 20-30 runs'.
"So going into the fielding, we knew that we have to make up those 15, 20 runs in fielding. Obviously, credit to the bowlers that they defended this small total', Jadhav said while praising the bowlers.
