8 lakh patients visited GMC Udhampur in last 3 yrs; 501 posts stand vacant: RTI

Says 31% of funds utilized, 4000 surgeries conducted, work going on several projects

SRINAGAR: Over 501 posts of “Doctors and Para Medical” staff are vacant at Government Medical College Udhampur, Right to Act (RTI) has revealed.
Social activist M. M. Shuja at GMC Udhampur filed an application under the Right to Information Act.
The RTI revealed that in the last three years, over 801,154 individuals visited the Outpatient Department (OPD), and 51700 people visited the In-Patient Department at Government Medical College Udhampur.
As per the RTI, 13971 patients have availed of the Golden Card scheme in the hospital.
Further, in the last three years, 656 general, 39 Gynae, 308 Ortho, 122 ENT, 332 Eye, and 2677 lower (uterine) segment Caesarean section (LSCS) surgeries were done at GMC Udhampur, it states.
The RTI revealed that over 501 doctors and para-medical staff posts are vacant.
The details reveal that over 24 HoD posts have been sanctioned for GMC Udhampur, out of which 14 are vacant. The total number of Associate professor-sanctioned posts is 34, out of which 30 are vacant.
Meanwhile, 52 assistant professor posts have been sanctioned for GMC Udhampur, out of which 20 stand vacant. Further, over 84 S.R/Demonstrator-sanctioned posts, of which 54 are vacant. As far as the Jr. Resident is concerned, there are over 63 posts, out of which 44 stand vacant, it reads.
At the same time, there are over 14 Medical officer-sanctioned posts, out of which 10 stand vacant. On the other hand, it added that there are over 330 sanctioned posts for GMC Udhampur, of which 327 are vacant.
The GMC Hospital has further informed through RTI that to meet the deficiency for Tutors/Lecturers/Professor in Government Medical College Udhampur, the recruitment is regularly being made on an academic arrangement basis (SO-364) till permanent staff is appointed by the higher authorities; it added.
Further, the hospital informed us that GMC Udhampur accommodation is running on a rent basis. Further, under the scheme “Construction of New Government Medical College, Udhampur,” the administrative and academic auditorium, animal house, hostel blocks, nurse accommodation, canteen, gym, and up-gradation of the teaching district hospital were added.
