Omar’s income up by just Rs 79,000 in 4 months, still owns no land, house or car

Zulfkar a multi-millionaire, possesses Rs 20 cr moveable, immoveable property

Jammu: Former Chief Minister and National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah, who has entered the electoral battle in J&K Assembly polls from Ganderbal seat in Central Kashmir, is a ‘lakhpati’ (millionaire), but he does not own a house, land, cars or any other immovable assets of his own.
Since May, when he unsuccessfully contested Lok Sabha elections from Baramulla, there have been no significant changes in his asset profile. His only source of income is the pension he receives as an ex-MLA and former Member of Parliament. He has earned only Rs 79,000 during the last four months.
In the poll affidavit filed before the Returning Officer today, Omar has movable assets worth Rs. 55.24 lakh. He has got Rs. 80,000 in cash, Rs. 19,76,000 in FD in HDFC Bank, Rs. 3,36,518 deposits in SBI Delhi, Rs. 43,800 deposits in HDFC Srinagar and Rs. 88, 112 deposits in J&K Bank, Moving Secretariat.
In its poll affidavit filed during Lok Sabha election in May this year, Omar, who served as J&K chief minister from 2009-14, had revealed that he possessed movable assets worth Rs. 54.45 lakh. He had got Rs. 95,000 in cash, Rs. 19,16,000 in FD in HDFC Bank, Rs. 21,373 deposits in SBI Delhi, Rs. 2,20,930 deposits in HDFC Srinagar and Rs. 1,91,745 deposits in J&K Bank at that time.
Omar, who is fighting a divorce case with his wife Payal Abdullah in the Supreme Court, has got jewellery worth Rs. 30 lakh.
What is more interesting is that Omar has got zero immovable assets. He neither owns a residential house nor has agriculture or non-agriculture land. He also has got no investments in land and no commercial building and neither owns a car.
Omar is a BSC graduate from Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics Mumbai. Omar in the poll affidavit, had disclosed in May that his income was Rs. 7,92,093 in 2019-20, Rs. 11,73,030 in 2020-21, Rs. 10,00,570 in 2021-22, Rs. 19,39,620 in 2022-23 and Rs. 13,20,460 in 2023-24.
As per the reports, Omar may face jailed cleric Sarjan Barkati in the assembly poll contest from party bastion Ganderbal in Jammu and Kashmir.
Omar, who recently contested his first parliamentary elections in the last 15 years, suffered a humiliating defeat from Baramulla in North Kashmir where the jailed leader and former MLA Engineer Abdul Rashid emerged as winner. Omar stood third in the contest.
Earlier, Omar lost his first Assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir from Ganderbal constituency in 2002 Assembly polls.
Contrary to this, former minister Choudhary Zulfkar Ali, who recently joined BJP and has filed his nomination from Budhal seat, is a multi-millionaire as he possesses Rs 3,22,11,640 moveable assets including Rs 5,00,000 cash, Rs 1,40, 30,540 FDR in J&K Bank, Rs 69, 78,993 deposits in SBI, Rs 86, 97,931 deposits in PNB and over Rs 6 lakhs in J&K Bank election expenditure account. He also holds 900 shares of J&K Bank. His wife has Rs 1,50,000 as cash, Rs 1,94,000 FDR in J&K Bank, and 1200 gms gold jewellery worth Rs 1 crore. One of his dependents possesses moveable property worth Rs 17,50,000.
The BJP candidate has immovable property worth Rs 17.27 crore including 25 acres agricultural land, over 10 kanals non-agricultural land, two commercial buildings in Chowadhi, four commercial shops at Palka Bazaar Aquaf Market Jammu, a petrol pump at Railway Road Trikuta Nagar, and a commercial shop in Rajouri. He also holds residential properties in Roop Nagar, Rajouri, Budgam and Delhi while his wife possesses immovable property worth Rs 70 lakh.
The former minister has liabilities in form of loan sanctions worth Rs 1,59,33,000 crore while has availed a loan of Rs 39, 15,000.
Choudhary Zulfkar is a Science graduate from Jammu University, while he also done L.L.B, L.L.M from University of Jammu in 1997 and 2004 respectively. He also completed MBA from IGNOU in the year 2008.
