KIWG 2025: Govt constitutes 2 panels for smooth conduct

Committee led by Union Sports Minister, LG Sinha, CM Omar to act as apex body

Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has taken a significant step towards ensuring the successful organization of the upcoming Khelo India Winter Games (KWIG) 2025 by constituting two high-level committees.
As per the order, the two panels including Organizing cum Coordination Committee and an Executive Committee to oversee the smooth conduct of the event in the Union Territory.
The Khelo India Winter Games, scheduled to be held later this year, is expected to bring together athletes from across the country, showcasing Jammu and Kashmir’s potential as a premier destination for winter sports. The event is set to further boost the region’s reputation as a hub for adventure tourism while providing a platform for athletes to compete in various winter sports disciplines.
The Organizing cum Coordination Committee, chaired by the Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, with the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and the Chief Minister as co-chairpersons, will act as the apex body for providing policy directions and guidance. The committee comprises senior officials from both the Central and Union Territory administrations, including secretaries of key departments, law enforcement officers, and representatives from national sports bodies. It is mandated to meet at least once a month to review progress and ensure strategic coordination.
The Executive Committee, led by the Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, is tasked with the day-to-day supervision and monitoring of activities related to the Games. The committee includes representatives from departments such as health, tourism, education, urban development, and transportation, alongside prominent figures from sports organizations. This body will oversee the implementation of infrastructure projects, coordination among implementing agencies, and resolution of operational issues. It will also be responsible for providing regular updates to the apex committee.
Key preparations are already underway, with a focus on developing and upgrading infrastructure at venues, ensuring safety protocols, and mobilizing resources to handle the large influx of athletes, officials, and spectators. Special emphasis is being placed on coordination between various departments to ensure seamless execution. Isolation wards and medical facilities will also be in place as a precautionary measure, reflecting the administration’s commitment to health and safety during the event.
The Khelo India Winter Games have become a flagship initiative under the Khelo India program, aimed at promoting sports culture in the country. For Jammu and Kashmir, this event holds particular significance, not just for its contribution to sports but also as a means of showcasing the region’s natural beauty and potential for tourism.
