LG orders swift, befitting reply to neutralise terrorists; Labourer from UP shot at in Tral

Srinagar: Two soldiers and two army porters were killed after terrorists attacked an army patrol vehicle in Jammu and Kashmir’s Gulmarg region on Thursday, police sources said. Meanwhile, two army jawans are reported to be injured and have been taken for treatment.
According to police sources, the army vehicle came under fire near the Nagin post area of Butapathri, Gulmarg near the Line of Control (LoC).
Following the attack, a massive search operation has been launched by security forces to locate the attackers.
Notably, this is the second major terror attack in Kashmir in the last five days. Earlier on Sunday, seven people including a Doctor were killed at Gagangir, Sonamarg.
The two civilian porters killed in the attack have been identified as Mushtaq Ahmed Choudhary R/o Nowshehra Boniyar, Baramulla and Zahoor Ahmad Mir R/o Barnate Boniyar, Baramulla.
It has been learned that the J&K police suspect it to be a case of infiltration near LoC.
Responding to the incident, the Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha directed security forces to give a swift and befitting response to the terrorists who attacked an Army vehicle in Gulmarg and killed two porters.
The terrorists opened fire on the vehicle in the Bota Pathri area, six kilometres from tourist hotspot Gulmarg in north Kashmir, in the evening, when it was headed for the Nagin post in the Afrawat range. Another porter and three soldiers were injured in the attack.
Sinha said the sacrifice of the martyrs will not go in vain.
"Spoke to top army officials on heinous terror attack in Bota Pathri Sector. Directed for swift and befitting reply to neutralise terrorists. Operation in progress. Sacrifice of our martyrs will not go in vain. Condolences to their families. Praying for speedy recovery of injured," the LG said in a post on X.
The attack on the Army vehicle comes amid a spike in terror incidents in the Valley.
In a deadly attack on Sunday, six non-local labourers and a local doctor were killed when terrorists fired indiscriminately upon them at the Z-Morh tunnel construction site in the Gagangir area of central Kashmir's Ganderbal district.
Before that, a labourer from Bihar was shot dead by terrorists in Shopian district on October 18.
Earlier, terrorists shot at and injured a labourer from Uttar Pradesh, Shubam Kumar, in the Tral area of Pulwama district.
Shubam Kumar, a resident of Bijnore, received a gunshot injury in the arm when the terrorists fired at him at Batagund village, the officials said.
They said Kumar has been rushed to a hospital for treatment.
