Says govt. will fulfill all promises; will restore statehood, Darbar Move

SRINAGAR: Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq, expressed confidence on Friday regarding a positive outcome from the recent meeting between Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He emphasized that this interaction could benefit the people of Jammu and Kashmir, especially since key issues are being raised that are crucial to the region's future.
In a conversation with The News Now, Sadiq highlighted the significance of Chief Minister Abdullah's visit to Delhi, where he met with top national leaders, including Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and other Union ministers.
According to Sadiq, Abdullah submitted a resolution on behalf of his Cabinet seeking the restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir. This move is seen as a reflection of the government’s commitment to regaining the Union Territory's previous status.
“This meeting shows the government’s serious stance on issues affecting the people here,” Sadiq said. “The submission of the statehood resolution to the Prime Minister is a bold step and a clear message that our administration prioritizes the aspirations of Jammu and Kashmir’s citizens”, he said.
Asked about recent protests by the opposition regarding the restoration of the Darbar Move—a tradition where the administrative offices are shifted between Srinagar and Jammu seasonally—and other manifesto promises, Sadiq underscored the government’s dedication to delivering on all its pledges.
He added that these promises were made during the National Conference’s election campaign and remain a priority for the administration.
“The opposition needs to be patient and give the government time,” Sadiq remarked. “We have just begun our term, and within a month, substantial steps are underway to address issues that matter to our people.”
He acknowledged that the opposition’s concerns, particularly those related to the Darbar Move and other commitments in the manifesto, are important but urged understanding that real progress takes time.
On the key promises outlined in their campaign, Sadiq reiterated that his party is committed to fulfilling every one of them, including those related to the restoration of Article 370, which provided special status to Jammu and Kashmir before its abrogation in 2019.
“We will honor every commitment made by our leadership. Our agenda includes restoring Article 370, achieving statehood, ensuring the continuity of the Darbar Move, and addressing other region-specific needs,” he said, assuring the public that the government is moving forward with a solid roadmap to achieve these goals.
When asked about the recent terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, MLA Tanvir Sadiq expressed strong condemnation, calling the incidents "unacceptable." Sadiq urged the Ministry of Home Affairs and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to implement stringent measures to protect civilians and prevent further violence.
"We urge the authorities to take decisive action against these terror elements to ensure the safety and security of our people," Sadiq said, emphasizing that the government must prioritize protecting lives in these challenging times. He called for an immediate and effective response to restore regional peace.
