Job Scam: Jammu man loses Rs 47L in Australia

Jammu: A middle aged man was duped of Rs 47 lakh by a Kashmiri Pandit who promised settlement and jobs to his two sons in Australia.
The complainant, Harbans Singh son of late S. Gain Singh of Karan Bagh Gadigarh, Satwari, claimed that he was approached by one Akhil Pandita son of Raj Kumar Pandita of Kashmiri Colony Indera Nagar, Miran Sahib Jammu. Akhil offered Harbans a well-paying job and settlement for his two sons in Australia and assured him that he would handle all the necessary paperwork.
However, as the process unfolded, Harbans realised he was being cheated. The accused allegedly demanded money at various stages for visa processing, medical tests, and other expenses which goes upto Rs 47 lakh. Despite making multiple payments, Harbans never received any promised jobs for his sons.
Realizing of being duped, Harbans lodged a complaint in Police Station Satwari. In his complaint, the complainant said that in the month of July 2023 Akhil Pandit came to his contact and assured him that his two sons would be settled in Australia .He demanded Rs 47 lacs which was given to him in different installments through online mode and by the end of September 2023 he gave the amount . He told police that after receiving payments Akhil started making excuses one after another and didn't fulfill his promise. Finally in the month of January 2024 he refused to send his children aboard and cheated him. Based on the complaint, a case vide FIR No 246/ 2024 U/S 420 IPC has been lodged in Police Station Satwari.
“ We have registered a case in this connection and started an investigation”, a senior police officer told The News Now when contacted.
