Militant killed as two gunbattles underway

Srinagar: Security forces shot dead an unidentified militant in an ongoing gun battle in Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district, the Army said on Wednesday.
A separate encounter is underway between militants and security forces in Kupwara district in north Kashmir.
The Bandipora operation began on Tuesday afternoon in the ChuntawadiKaitsan area after joint forces launched a cordon-and-search operation based on intelligence inputs.
"As the cordon was being laid, terrorists opened fire, which was effectively retaliated. In the encounter that followed, a terrorist has been killed so far," officials said.
They added that security men suffered some injuries during the operation.
In a post on X, the Army's Srinagar Chinar Corps confirmed the killing of one militant in Bandipora and said the operation is in progress.
A separate gun battle erupted in the Lolab area of Kupwara district late Tuesday.
The encounter erupted during a search operation by the security forces in the area.
" Security forces are on the job," the officials said.
