Aims to rebuild robust unit to combat BJP as only rival…..!
Jammu: J&K Congress may be at receiving end in not having any ministerial berth in the Omar Abdullah government, the party is directing its energies on what it sees as a major target: reshaping and rejuvenating the organization for combating rival BJP.
Sources said soon after formation of government the new Pradesh Congress Committee president Tariq Karra is losing no sight and time on changing the face of the party across all regions for the bigger purpose of strengthening it right from grass root levels and entire hierarchy. He is on the job from day one and making efforts not only to effect organizational structure but more importantly to streamline the functioning of the unit, said a senior party leader.
Karra is undoubtedly a senior politician and upon taking up this responsibility his focus is on reshaping the organization across length and breadth in a planned manner, he said. His aim is to rebuild J&K party unit in a phased manner so that it gets capable of beating its major rival BJP in Jammu. Karra in capacity of new PCC chief is equipped with organizational skills and a tough disciplinarian, the source said explaining his mode of working which he began with effecting changes recently by replacing few district presidents.
Though there is criticism from some quarters in this exercise, Karra largely has acceptability in both Kashmir and Jammu region at all levels contrary to his predecessor, the Congress leader said. Moreover, he is said to be getting go ahead signals for whatever he deems proper in reshaping the party from the high command in New Delhi and so far there has been no impediments.
Most significant aspect of his working is clarity of the fact that party may have won seats from Kashmir but its major challenges still exist in Jammu and party’s future poll politics largely hinges on how better it performs in Jammu against BJP. Congress is well in coalition with NC but its competition is always with BJP which makes it imperative to streamline working more in Jammu region.
In the recent party meetings and the statements which emerged thereafter Karra has given a loud and clear message that party would be rejuvenated across UT but focus largely remains for Jammu region where mode of working , organizing activities and events would not be just for formality sake but in a meaningful manner. Party’s announcement to celebrate 3 consecutive events in a big way clearly explains his strategy. Congress is organizing functions on November 14, 19 and 26 to commemorate late Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru’s birthday, late Indira Gandhi and constitution day respectively.
