13 Kendriya Vidyalayas to come up across J&K

SRINAGAR: Thirteen KendriyaVidyalayas has been sanctioned for Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Minister of State in the Ministry of Education informed Rajya Sabha.
Question was raised whether Government has any proposal to establish KendriyaVidyalayas in the remote blocks of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), considering the challenging geographical conditions and mountainous terrain of the region.
The Minister of State in the Ministry of Education Jayant Chaudhary said opening of new KendriyaVidyalayas (KVs) is a continuous process. KVs are opened primarily to cater to the educational needs of the wards of transferable Central Government Employees including Defence & Para-military personnel, Central Autonomous Bodies, Central Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and Central Institute of Higher Learning (IHL) by providing a common programme of education throughout the country.
Proposals for opening of new KVs may be sponsored by Ministries or Departments of the Government of India / State Governments / Union Territories (UTs) Administrations, with commitment to provide requisite resources including land and temporary accommodation for setting up a new KV as per norms. KVs are not opened on the criteria of State/ UT/ District/ block/ remote/Geographical conditions and mountainous terrain, he said.
At present, 1253 KVs including 35 KVs in the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir are functioning across the country.
In December 2024, the Government of India has sanctioned opening of 85 new KVs across the country including 13 new KVs in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir i.e. (1) Gool, District Ramban, (2) Ramban, District Ramban (3) Bani, District Kathua (4) Ramkot, District Kathua (5) Reasi, District Reasi (6) Katra (Kakriyal), District Reasi (7) Ratnipora, District Pulwama (8) Galander (Chandhara), District Pulwama (9) Mughal Maidan, District Kisthwar (10) Gulpur, District Poonch (11) Drugmulla, District Kupwara (12) Vijaypur, District Samba (13) Panchari, District Udhampur, he said.
