Framing strategic discussion to rebuild party's grassroots foundation
JAMMU: After the Congress party's defeat in the recent assembly elections, State Congress Committee President Tariq Hameed Karra has taken decisive steps to rejuvenate the party. With a focus on strengthening the organization at its core, Karra has dedicated himself to reinvigorating the party's structure and morale.
In a systematic approach, Karra has been engaging directly with party leaders and workers. Following one-on-one meetings with block heads, he held a strategic discussion with senior party leaders in Jammu, emphasizing the need to rebuild the party's grassroots foundation.
During the meeting, he sought suggestions and outlined a roadmap to enhance the party’s outreach and influence. Leaders like Shabbir Ahmed Khan, Yashpal Kundal, Shahnawaz Chaudhary, and Dinanath Bhagat were among those who participated in these discussions.
Karra has been stationed in Jammu for over a week, actively engaging with party members since his visit to Rajouri on November 26. His continuous efforts include listening to feedback, providing guidance, and inspiring confidence among party workers.
He has been particularly focused on encouraging the defeated candidates to reflect on the causes of the loss, urging them to embrace self-introspection and channel their energy into revitalized political activities.
Party insiders reveal that Karra has been soliciting practical ideas to reinforce the party’s presence across the region. He recognizes that mere resignation to defeat is not an option, especially with upcoming Panchayat and civic elections.
Even if senior leaders opt out of contesting these local elections, Karra emphasizes the importance of rallying behind Congress workers to build a strong foundation at the Panchayat and booth levels.
The Congress faced a significant setback, securing only one seat in the Jammu division. Post-defeat, many leaders and candidates have been noticeably inactive in efforts to strengthen the party.
However, Karra, who assumed leadership of the State Congress Committee shortly before the elections, is determined to turn the tide. His leadership is aimed at fostering a sense of collective responsibility and mutual coordination among party members.
Ravindra Sharma, the party's chief spokesperson and senior vice-president, highlighted Karra’s unwavering commitment. Sharma noted that the president’s presence in Jammu and his direct engagement with block and district heads are key steps towards fortifying the party.
According to Sharma, Karra’s grassroots-focused approach and hands-on leadership are pivotal in aligning the party for future electoral challenges.
Karra's strategy underscores a clear vision to transform the Congress into a robust political force, driven by collaboration, self-analysis, and a reinvigorated resolve. By addressing internal issues and mobilizing efforts at the grassroots level, he aims to rebuild the party’s stature and credibility in the region.
