32 drug de-addiction centre set up in J&K; 9th highest in India: Centre

Over Rs 5.82 Cr spent on centres
SRINAGAR: In Jammu and Kashmir, there are over 32 drug de-addiction centres under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR) Scheme.
This was informed by Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment B.L. Verma in Lok Sabha.
To tackle the issue of substance use, this Department formulated and is implementing the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), a centrally sponsored scheme under which financial assistance is provided to State Governments/ Union Territory (UT) Administrations for Preventive Education and Awareness Generation, Capacity Building, Programmes for Drug Demand Reduction by States/UTs etc, the minister informed.
NOs for running and maintenance of Integrated Rehabilitation Centres for Addicts (IRCAs), Community-based peer Led intervention (CPLI) for early Drug Use Prevention among Adolescents, Outreach and Drop-In Centres (ODIC) and District De-Addiction Centres (DDACs) and Government Hospitals for Addiction Treatment Facilities (ATFs).
The following actions have been undertaken for drug demand reduction under NAPDDR scheme Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) is being implemented across all districts of the country. So far, NMBA has reached out to more than 13.57 crore people including 4.42 crore youth and 2.71 crore women. More than 3.85 lalch educational institutions have also participated in this Abhiyaan.
347 Integrated Rehabilitation Centres for Addicts (IRCAs) are supported by the Ministry. These IRCAs not only provide for treating the drug addicts, but also give services of preventive education, awareness generation, motivational counselling, detoxification/de-addiction, after care and re-integration into the social mainstream.
Sharing details on Jammu and Kashmir, the minister informed that there is one Integrated Rehabilitation Centres for Addicts, 3 74 Outreach and Drop In Centres, 2 Community based Peer led Intervention (CPLI), 20 Addiction Treatment Facilities and one State Level Coordinating Agencies, the minister informed.
The minister informed that during year 2021-22, Rs 0.46 Cr amount of fund were allocated to drug de-addiction centre in Jammu and Kashmir; Rs 2.37 Cr in year 2022-23; Rs 2.15 Cr in year 2023-24 and Rs 0.84 Cr as of this year now making a total of Rs 5.82 Cr.
